Shocked, delighted… looks similar? Not necessarily!

HSBC Loan

Louai Alasfahani sent in this ad for HSBC, and pointed out the resemblance to the centrepoint ads.

It seems to me that the ads have different messages, use the ‘electricity plugs’ differently, and it’s simply a coincidence.

  • 3. Mark  |  July 18th, 2007 at 6:38 pm

ummm so no one is allowed to use power outlets anymore in ads??

Maybe he just can’t handle the fact that someone else in the market is creating public awareness ads AND they are like a million times better then those cheesy illustrated Paragon version.

i agree.. they are not the same.

This ad is rubbish… it does not motivate me whatsover to apply for a home loan from HSBC.

Moreover I am “shocked” at the art direction.. absolutely appaling…
Finally, this has nothing to do with the public awareness campaign posted previously that boasts a strong message accompanied with great art direction…

Common’ Louai, that’s too much!! Do you love harming people?? Is no one allowed to use an electricity plug in ads anymore? what about the fish that was used and misused in so many ads and in one of yours too? What about the banana ad that you did and looks so much of the Chiquita ad??
    Am really speechless!!

:) check the publising dates of the yellow pages banana ad and the chiquetta ad and you will find out who created it first and who also won an international award for it…oppssss that could explain the “most hated Ad Man” part…well at least you got the MAN part right :) im using my real name in the blog who else is man enough to do the same? ;)

NB. thank god im not running for the “Mr. popular” contest this year…again :)

You cant guess how much i am enjoying to see the fire and passion that you young guys have…keep it up.

  • 13. kre8tive  |  July 25th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

That’s exactly the point here, Louai.. You should never accuse people of copying and try to prove it half-ccoked because you’ll get your sorry a** fired back.. Just like how you explain your Bananas being published and claimed that you came out with the lame idea, first. Also regarding the REAL name issue, who gives a F**k? You’d only make yourself stupid infront of these people, contrary to the REAL MAN idiotic you have in mind. Awards? Get me the Cannes, if not, just keep those crappy awards in your closet.
