Media more trusted than governments?
May 6th, 2006 Zeid Nasser (Admin)

A study by BBC, Reuters, and The Media Center has revealed that more people trust the media than their governments, especially in developing countries.
The opinion poll was carried out in ten countries. Trust in media was highest in Nigeria (88% vs 34% gov’t.) followed by Indonesia (86% vs 71%), India (82% vs 66%), and Russia (58% vs 54%).
In Egypt, the question regarding the degree of trust in government was not asked. Why? You’ll have to ask BBC and Reuters! But, anyway, trust in the media stands at a whopping 74%.
And, peculiary, the US and the UK were the only countries where people trusted their government more than the media! That explains a lot doesn’t it.
Here’s a comprehensive press release on the study, at the GlobeScan website.
