Three new ” I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” commercials

I\'m A Mac I\'m A PC

Following the success and controversy raised by Apple’s “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” campaign, three more commercials have been produced.

The same characters are featured- a ‘cool’ Mac owner and a ’stuffy’ PC owner- and the idea is to highlight how great it is to own a Macintosh opposed to the boring, troublesome PC!

Whether you agree with that or not is up to you, but these commercials will cause a commotion this week.

See them at Apple’s website.

Terror Has No Religion

Terror Has No Religion 1
Terror Has No Religion 2

Terror Has No Religion is a campaign that’s causing some controversy and discussion, as you can see in detail on HoutLust.

The campaign includes a TV commercial, which you must see. We had mentioned it here when it was being made in June.

There are also a variety of print designs for newspapers and outdoor, a couple of which are shown above.

The debate centers around ‘How Effective Is This Campaign’, which is primarily targeting Iraq and is already running on several Arab Satellite TV channels.

Will it influence would-be suicide bombers, by highlighting the innocent human losses of such actions?

Check out the campaign website.

30 TV commercials for 30 Human Rights

Youth For Human Rights

This is an impressive educational ad campaign comprising 30 TV commercials by Youth For Human Rights International, a non-profit organization in Los Angeles.

The idea is for young people to learn what everyone’s rights are through visual stories.

There’s a TV commercial for every one of the 30 points in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, produced as public service announcements.

Watch all the TV commercials.

Designers, bloggers for Lebanon

Designers and bloggers from around the region are using their skills to help Lebanon in the face of the ongoing Israeli attack.

Lebanon destruction map

This map is from a site that is providing updates on the aggression against Lebanon.

The Lebanese designer Zeina Maasri, who has co-developed this map, wrote:

We have done this map as it can clearly reveal the siege that
different cities/inhabitants have undergone and still suffer from, it
also shows how Israel’s fierce assault on Lebanon completely violates
the Geneva conventions & international law relative to respect for
human rights in armed conflicts, through its massive destruction of
vital civilian utility sites and infrastructure.

faces against war

Jordanian designer Wael Attili started the campaign above, of people covering their mouth with their chosen message against the war or in support of Lebanon. Now there’s a Flickr group where people can post their photos.

A number of blogging communities and companies have also launched a Bloggers for Lebanon (Arabic link) campaign that aims to go beyond ‘talk’ and help collect donations of vital materials that are urgently needed in Lebanon.

And, finally there is re-Lebanon.org a site that is bringing together several donation campaigns. The aim of the site is the creation of a long term campaign that not only helps with aid, but extend into reconstruction efforts later. The site is very well designed and has a neat feature. Messages of support from people light up dots on a grid of pixels that would eventually for the Lebanese flag.

“Be the first to know”…. with CNN or BBC?

BBC Arabic Logo

It seems the latest slogan used by the BBC for its Arabic e-newsletters, which it recently launched, has caused problems with CNN.

The BBC Arabic service ran an aggressive Internet advertising campaign, on regional and Arabic websites, promoting the newsletters with the line “Be the first to know.”

If you watch CNN for ten minutes, you’ll see a promotion using that exact line too. It’s on every promo, as an integral part of CNN’s identity.

A press release by the BBC a month ago said that “BBC World Service used the Amman-based design agency, Mint, to produce creative work for the campaign.”

Who decided to use the wording is not clear. But, it’s worth thinking about this matter for a moment.

Does anyone really own such a generic statement, which sums up the goal of every news organization on earth?

Racially-charged PSP campaign

PSP White Is Coming

This outdoor ad for the launch of the PlayStation Portable (PSP) latest models is causing a lot of controversy all over the Internet.

Sony is introducing the new PSP in two colors, black and white. You can figure out the rest!

The “racially charged” image of a white woman grabbing a black woman’s face is disturbing.

But the next phase of the campaign involves the black women hitting back, and wrestling the white woman to the ground.

PSP Black is Coming

Offensive and controversial. Maybe that’s what Sony wants.

But aren’t most of the customers, for a handheld gaming device, young and impressionable. What kind of a message is Sony sending to them? Read more at gaming blog Joystiq.
